Your
Membership Is Vital!
By
becoming a member of the Great Baikal Trail Association, you are
not only supporting a unique environmental non-profit and a
variety of grassroots trail-building, educational, and social
activities around Lake Baikal. You become a part of our
extended family of friends, supporters, and volunteers, joining
a global community of idealists working to bring sustainable
development to one of the most beautiful areas of Planet Earth.
Every cent you donate directly contributes to preserving
pristine wilderness of Lake Baikal - and gives local people a
chance to lead their lives with dignity. Finally, every
donation over $15 is tax-deductible!

You can help us!
Being a young grassroots non-profit in a country
that lacks an established charity culture, we appreciate all
types of support – financial, in-kind, and item donations are
very welcome. At the present moment, we need the following
for our volunteer camps:
-
Tools (pulaskis, pick axes, saws, chainsaws, pruning
sheers, hatchets, etc.);
-
Cooking equipment for campfires - for example,
kettles and trivets (a trivet is a metal stand
used for holding a kettle over an open fire);
-
Camping and hiking gear (tents, sleeping bags,
tarps, ropes, etc.);
-
Biodegradable soap (not available in Russia);
-
Sports gear (balls, paddles, etc.);
-
Snowshoes! (surprisingly, also not available in
Siberia);
The GBT Club also works with children in various
cities and villages of the Baikal region, conducting
environmental education projects, history and English lessons,
nature outings, and simply having fun. For this work we need the following:
-
Electronic equipment (computers, printers, scanners,
etc.);
-
Stationary and art supplies (paints, brushes,
paper);
-
Board games for children;
-
Educational DVDs and CDs (on environmental and
social topics, leadership development, history, art,
documentaries, etc.).
And of course, we always need VOLUNTEERS who want
to take part in our projects and make a contribution to our
work!
NOTE: One of the easiest ways to
get big bulky or expensive items (like tools or computers) to us
is to send them along with someone who is traveling to Lake
Baikal (of course, the preferred option is to bring them
yourself when you come to volunteer on the Great Baikal Trail!).
Otherwise, please email us at
ariadna_gbt@mail.ru
for suggestions.
As for lighter, smaller items, we
would greatly appreciate it if you could first email us at
lagel@mail.ru
describing the donated items and estimating the time of their
arrival, and then send them directly to Siberia at the following
address:
