1. Trail Name: In the Jungles of Khamar-Daban
2. Trail Length: 12.5 km, taking into
consideration the middle coefficient: 1.3
3. Beginning and end points of the trail: The
beginning of the trail – Baikal Reserve office in the
settlement of Tankhoi, the end of the trail – Alpine
meadows - the peak of watershed.
4. Trail purpose, noting level of difficulty:
walking trail, middle level of difficulty, intended for
educational tourism with permission for school
organizations and student groups.
5. Obstacles on the trail: rock outcropping along
the trail in the narrow Osinovka river valley, Osinovka
river crossing, small rivers and streams in the valleys.
Danger appears on the undeveloped old trail upstream of
the waterfall, especially in rain, noted by the dotted
line.
6. Level of trail development (what exists on the
trail, what kind of structure, campsites etc.): for
2009, the trail has been fully developed up to the
waterfall, further on the developed trail avoiding
cliffs there is an impasse above the sandy beach of the
Osinovka river, and there are two developed overlooks
with a view of the Osinovka river. Developed campsites
are marked on the map with a black triangle.
7. Informational trail typography (information boards
and signs, markings): In 2004-2008, mainly
switchbacks were marked with Baikal Reserve information
boards, there are not markings on the entire length of
the trail, places with information boards are marked on
the map with a red dot.
8. How to reach the beginning of the trail, how to
leave from the end of the trail: You can reach the
beginning of the trail at the Baikal reserve office on
a marshrutka or train (elektrichka) from Irkutsk and
Ulan Ude to the village Tankhoi. You can leave the trail
from Tankhoi village in the same manner.
9. Details of visiting the territory (for national
parks and reserves), rules of behavior on the trail:
the trail crosses the territory of the Baikal reserve,
for this reason it is illegal to leave trash, to chop
firewood, to pick plants and to hunt, to organize
stationary camps and any farming activities without a
special permit. On the territory from the meadow to the
waterfall and upstream of the Osinovka river there is a
reserve zone, which can be attended only on a special
permit.
